Support the 2010 Fellowship! |

In July 2008, we announced the inaugural class of 25 emerging leaders in the Roundtable’s new Future Executive Directors Fellowship. It was the first program of this focus and intensity to be offered to emerging nonprofit leaders who aspire the nonprofit CEO position. In March 2009, the program concluded with a lively celebration at Busboys and Poets where the Fellows shared their accomplishments during the Fellowship, including success in completing a "stretch assignment" during the program. Already, the program has achieved considerable impact. In just six months, two of the 25 Fellows have already reached their goal of becoming a nonprofit executive director. The Meyer Foundation’s 2008 report, Ready to Lead, showed that one-third of emerging nonprofit leaders have aspirations of becoming executive directors, 40% of which said that they would be ready within five years. What we’ve seen is that our Fellows are ready now.
Amanda Andere has just been appointed Executive Director of Fairfax Area Christian Emergency & Transitional Services, Inc. (FACETS). Amanda formerly served as the Vice President of External Affairs and Community Resources at Reston Interfaith. "I cannot thank the Nonprofit Roundtable enough. Being in the fellowship really prepared me for the new job," Andere said.
Alicia Wilson has just been selected as the Executive Director of La Clinica del Pueblo . She previously served as the organization's Director of Grants and Contracts Administration. Said Wilson of her new role, "I'm really glad that I (and the Board) made this decision. I'm really enjoying being an Executive Director!"
The 25 Fellows participated in an intensive six-month program designed to prepare them for executive directorships, diving deep into fundraising, communications, human resources, financial management, negotiating effectively, building partnerships, and achieving work/life balance. Fellows were exposed to a rich network of mentors, colleagues, faculty, and current nonprofit CEOs to help them develop as leaders. Their mentors were all current or former Executive Directors who candidly shared their real-life experiences in leading organizations. Now, the program concludes with three months of ongoing support from the Roundtable including monthly learning lunches for Fellows, invitations to Roundtable events, visibility on our website, and a session on how to pursue an Executive Director position in the future.
We created this program as a result of research about baby boomers
retiring from leadership positions and general burnout. There was a
demonstrated need to develop future nonprofit leaders and the demand
was great for this kind of program. We received a whopping 113
applications and selected only 25 for the first cohort. People who want to
be executive directors in the future said that they need mentoring and
leadership development to pave this career path. We have provided that
to the inaugural class, but the need out there is so much greater.
Now, more than ever, we need your support. Nonprofits right now are
experiencing increased demand and decreased revenue in this economic
recession. All of these challenges require stable nonprofit
leadership. Will you help us serve more emerging leaders by supporting
the 2010 Fellowship? A gift from you, your corporation, or your
foundation would help us reach our goal of raising funding to provide
this program again in 2010. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation of $100 or more by clicking the button below.
