Nonprofit and Government Relationships
The Roundtable advocates for and facilitates strong relationships between nonprofits and government through the following objectives:

In the event of an emergency, our region relies on nonprofits to aid victims and their families. Yet, for our region to respond effectively to a large-scale emergency, the nonprofit sector must be fully integrated into local and regional preparedness, response, and recovery plans. Working with the Department of Homeland Security, the Roundtable is engaged in the regional long-term recovery planning process within areas where the nonprofit sector can provide expertise. The Roundtable is also partnering with Deloitte to develop a strategic plan that defines the nonprofit sector's role in emergency response and recovery.

Working in partnership with the regional 2-1-1 call centers the Roundtable works to  enhance our regional 211 system. A human services information and referral system, 211 call centers are launching across the country. Centers in our region function like 411, but focus on human services such as health care and charitable donation sites. The Roundtable facilitated collaboration among nonprofits working with the 211 centers in DC, Maryland, and Virginia to complement the call centers with a website: www.211metrodc.org. Additional enhancements will include components such as job training and healthcare databases on the website.
