Nonprofit NoVA Membership

To achieve its mission, Nonprofit NoVA seeks to expand its current membership within the nonprofit community beyond human service providers, to include education, community development, environment, arts and health providers as well as foundations and advocacy organizations.  Also encouraged and invited to join Nonprofit NoVA are any corporate partners interested in forwarding the mission of nonprofits in our region.

Nonprofit NoVA
After over a dozen years in existence, the Human Services Coalition of Northern Virginia (HSCNV) has transformed into Nonprofit NoVA through an affiliation with The Nonprofit Roundtable of Greater Washington.

The mission of Nonprofit NoVA is to build the strength, visibility and influence of the nonprofit sector in order to create a more just and caring community in the Northern Virginia region.

Background:
The synergistic relationship between the HSCNV and the Roundtable became evident late last year when the two joined forces to defeat VA legislation that threatened to negatively impact the work of nonprofits in the state.  Their partnership developed during this advocacy effort when members of both organizations began to recognize the benefits of their collaboration.

For the HSCNV, the alignment represented an opportunity to expand its fund development opportunities and capacity building and serve as a vehicle to bring HSCNV member voices to the table on issues that affect the sector as a whole.  Whereas for the Roundtable, the relationship denoted an opportunity to bring together nonprofit leaders from an important part of our region and build a broad base of involvement in Northern Virginia, furthering its efforts to build a collective voice for the sector.

Goals of Nonprofit NoVA:

* Serve as the hub, convener and voice of the nonprofit community in Northern Virginia

* Convene leaders to solve regional problems - nonprofit leaders, corporate leaders, philanthropists, local government leaders, community leaders

* Promote the value of nonprofit organizations and the expertise of nonprofit leaders throughout Northern Virginia

* Develop and support nonprofit leaders in Northern Virginia

* Provide a support group for peers and develop a strong sense of community within the nonprofit community

*Create a network of referrals to share commonalities and best practices

*Provide training, leadership development, and support to nonprofits in Northern Virginia

*Create programmatic priorities to meet the issues and challenges of nonprofits in Northern Virginia and, through broader outreach, develop effective tools and advocacy platforms to positively affect those issues and challenges
