2-1-1 Database for the National Capital Region

The 2-1-1 dababase project for the National Capital Region creates a searchable website (www.211metrodc.org) containing data from the region’s 2-1-1 call systems. These call systems function much like the 4-1-1 service, but are focused on human services (healthcare, mental health care, donation sites). The 2-1-1 regional database is a collaboration between the District, Maryland, and Virginia 2-1-1 call centers.

This website and database provides a valuable tool for use by case management professionals and the community at large.  When accessing the database individuals find programs that are at once convenient to them and suitable for their needs.

Funding support for the National Capital Region 2-1-1 database and website has been provided by the IBM Corporation, the United Way of the National Capital Region, as well as the National Capital Region and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Urban Areas Security Initiative.

2-1-1 Project Status

The website, www.211metrodc.org, was launched in February 2007. We are currently working on linking the 2-1-1 database to information found on other specialized information and referral sites, as well as connecting with emergency service systems to provide stronger coverage to regional residents in the event of an disaster.

2-1-1 in the Region

The District: The newly expanded 3-1-1 service in DC does not effect calls placed to 2-1-1. Human services related calls are handled by calling 2-1-1 or 3-1-1.

Maryland: Maryland's 2-1-1 program is still in pilot status in the National Capital Region, but will not continue past July if permanent state funding is not found.

Virginia: Northern Virginia now has 2-1-1 call service available seven days a week.
