"Moving Your Message" Submission: Tahirih's Media Attention Leads to New Law

Tahirih Justice Center has benefited from earned media to raise awareness around the plight of women and girls fleeing human rights abuses. In 2004, Tahirih won the first lawsuit in the U.S. against a mail order bride agency, receiving attention from FOX, CNN, NPR, and Newsweek. This led Congress to pass the first law EVER regulating the mail order bride industry!

Epilepsy Foundation Enters “Moving Your Mesage” Contest

During the 2009 National Epilepsy Awareness Month, the Epilepsy Foundation took advantage of creative media in alerting the publicabout the realities of the disease.Through a Twitter campaign in which people submitted personal anecdotes, the Foundation not only had tweeters tweeting- the Foundation earned over 200 media mentions AND got celebrities and congress talking!

The Capital Area Food Bank used newspaper coverage duringthe recession to boost donations.Because of the weak economy, more people were demanding food, but less people were giving money to the Food Bank.However, a critical article in USA Today and the Washington Post attracted the public’s attention to this dilemma.As a result, money donations increased by 2000% the day after the article ran!

Casey Trees Enters the Roundtable's "Moving Your Message" Contest

Casey Trees uses creative media to promote their 25 to Stay Alive campaign. This movement encourages people to water the trees surrounding their property with at least 25 gallons per week. Casey Trees uses the internet, including Facebook and Twitter, to issue specific watering recommendations. By taking advantage of social media to make potentially obscure information more accessible, it allows people to better care for their trees.
