FOUR FANTASTIC MODELS OF COMMUNICATION
Communicating nonprofit impact is more critical than ever.  These four models capture different ways to highlight the potential return on investment in these nonprofits.  (

1). WHITMAN WALKER CLINIC Whitman Walker Clinic put out a press release last week noting "a 4% operating gain for 2010, its first positive operating result in nearly a decade," and "caring for 13,000 patients, a 30% increase over 2009."  You may have seen Don Blanchon on WJLA7 or Fox5 or read about this in the Washington Blade or the Washington Post, among other places.  We were simply amazed when we saw that The Post piece actually included charts showing their Operating Budget going from red to black - nice!

2). MELWOOD  Melwood made a splash at the 2011 Washington Auto Show with their "2011 Melwood" - a surprise model!  Check out 'Create an Opportunity' on their dedicated website - and see the accompanying 30-sec ad a masterpiece! - followed by the 'making of' video.  You can read more about the ad and their giving campaign in The Gazette, a press release, and on their Facebook page.

3). GOODWILL OF GREATER WASHINGTON   Goodwill of Greater Washington recently introduced a mobile app designed to allow users to find any Goodwill retail store or donation bin in our region - and so much more! "The goal of Goodwill of Greater Washington’s new mobile app is to enhance the ease and convenience of supporting Goodwill”, according to Brendan Hurley in their press release and on his blog.

 4). ACT FOR ALEXANDRIA

ACT for Alexandria has launched a new citizen engagement website, ACTion Alexandria, according to their homepage. Their first ACTion, to raise $500 to pay for one month of milk and snacks for children living at the Carpenter's Shelter's residential facility, was a great success. See all the ACTions in their ACTion Center. This tool is a collaboration between ACT for Alexandria, the Knight Foundation and the City of Alexandria, among others.
