Roundtable Members accomplished a lot together in 2009-2010.
• We, along side the Center for Nonprofit Advancement, launched the first ever regional budget advocacy campaign, Think Twice Before You Slice, in which more than 150 nonprofit leaders participated in strategy and communications sessions and advocacy workshops to develop skills to make the case for preserved funding in their respective jurisdictions. With support from the campaign, nonprofit leaders were instrumental in restoring $31.8 million in funding.
• We created the Capital Area Foreclosure Network (CAFN) in cooperation with the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments to raise awareness of the foreclosure crisis by coordinating comprehensive support to front line organizations working with at-risk residents.
• We, along with Nonprofit Montgomery and the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, organized a group of nonprofits to use their collective power to obtain cheaper and greener electricity. 14 nonprofits joined Nonprofit Energy Alliance I saving an estimated $180,000 per year, while also supporting clean sources of energy. The 12 organizations that formed Nonprofit Energy Alliance II saved an estimated $70,000, which is equivalent to taking 439 passenger vehicles off the road or powering 279 homes.
• We began our second class of Future Executive Fellows with 25 mid to senior nonprofit professionals participating in a 12 month leadership development program to help prepare them for nonprofit executive leadership.
• We hosted Tables for Ten, a series of discussions to foster peer support, and accelerate familiarity, trust, and bonding among particular groups of nonprofit professionals. We organize Tables for Ten for CEOs, CFOs, Development Directors, and Emerging Leaders. About 100 nonprofit leaders and staff participate in Tables for Ten each year.
• While partnering with the Deloitte Center for Leadership, we hosted our Nonprofit CEO Education Breakfast Series, which is a four part workshop focused on Strategic Workforce Realignment and Rightsizing; Building the Senior Team; Developing the Leadership and Influence of Your Senior Team; and Leading Across Generations.
• Our leadership in the Racial Diversity Collaborative contributed to the goal of diversifying nonprofit leadership in Greater Washington. We’ve hosted two discussions about the impact of race, gender, and age in efforts to diversify nonprofit leadership.
• We’ve helped local university leaders and nonprofits join together to form a University-Nonprofit affinity group to better coordinate research, training and capacity building opportunities for nonprofits.
2007-2008 Accomplishments
Roundtable Members accomplished a lot together in 2007-2008, and we will build on these things and learn from them:
• We responded to the uncertain economic climate including helping form a coalition of umbrella organizations to crafted a joint letter to decision makers involved in the restructuring of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. These organizations included the Board of Trade, the Council of Governments, Leadership Greater Washington, the United Way of the National Capital Area, and Washington Grantmakers.
• We engaged print, radio, and television media as well as social media - our joint efforts made a difference. Going forward, we will need to communicate better then ever about the value and impact of the nonprofit community.
• We completed the first Beyond the Walls Fellowship Program - and these leaders are poised to lead coalitions and convene us to solve problems bigger than any single organization can address alone.
• Nonprofit Montgomery , and the new Nonprofit NoVA, are local coalitions created by Members as affiliates of the Roundtable to build the collective voice of nonprofit leaders on local concerns. Part of the work will be focusing on Annapolis and Richmond in the coming months.
• We convened leaders of the region's 2-1-1 systems with those who worked on Katrina and the California fires and continue to enhance the database of 10,000 programs and 4,000 organizations at www.211MetroDC.org .
• Emergency Preparedness - our regional strategic plan was released on October 23 with Deloitte will detail preparedness gaps and what we will need to do strengthen our region.
